The challenge

Personal care.
Time-consuming preparation.

Every patient needed a different plan.
Every handout meant more work.

Different ages, abilities and equipment at home called for individualized guidance. Staff searched online for exercise images and copied them into Word documents – a process Katie Cameron described as bulky and complex.

Before Train

  • Search for images
  • Assemble the handout
  • Repeat for each patient

After Train

  • Instantly find suitable exercises
  • Build personalized plans with ease
  • Send patients home with clear visual guidance
The approach

One prescription. From clinic to home.

  1. Personalize the plan

Choose exercises around the patient’s abilities, interests and equipment.

  2. Teach and practice

Demonstrate together, observe the patient and correct form.

  3. Take the guidance home

Give patients illustrated routines to reinforce what they’ve learned.

Katie describes creating around three exercise circuits per patient, plus a flexibility routine. Using Train’s filters, the team chooses movements suited to each patient’s abilities and the equipment they can access at home or at a gym. Patients can also help choose exercises, which the team turns into illustrated routines – giving them more ownership of a plan they can use beyond the program.

The benefits

Easier for staff.
Clearer for patients.
Shared by the team.

For staff

Less preparation. More personalization.

A categorized library makes suitable exercises easier to find and turn into individual plans.

“Makes our job a lot more efficient.” – Tracy Curran, PhD

For patients

A reminder of what they’ve learned.

Illustrations, instructions and muscle-group diagrams reinforce teaching. Choosing exercises with staff gives patients a role in their own routine.

For the program

Shared expertise. Resources that last.

Clinicians share workouts and adapt useful routines. During follow-ups after graduation, Katie reports that patients often still have their handouts and continue referring to them.

Because several exercise physiologists work with the same patients, Train lets them access and build on one another’s plans. Tracy also describes reusing workouts across patients, adapting a useful routine to someone else’s needs. This gives the team a practical way to share its experience while keeping care individual.

“They may not remember the name of the exercise, but if we were to show them the picture, then they recall doing it.”
